Biological Hermeneutics family event at Chetham’s Library
Creative TouristAn interactive workshop suitable for children over 7, discovering the truly hidden history of Chetham’s Library through the processes of microbiology. Led by the Biological Hermeneutics Department, learn about the history of this little-known discipline, with the chance to see some of the early key texts and handle books from the collection. After an introduction to the recent scientific discoveries on an eighteenth-century copy of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, you will be invited to participate in a citizen science project, sampling microbiology from locations within the Library. Make your own cultures to take home and examine over the following weeks, sharing your findings on social media using the #biologicalhermeneutics hashtag.
