MAH17: Art Walk

Polly Checkland Harding

Art Walk at Castlefield Gallery, Castlefield 18 May 2017 Entrance is free — Visit now

This walking tour for Manchester After Hours and TfGM’s Walking Festival is a unique chance to experience three of the city’s top exhibitions in a new way: coordinated by Castlefield Gallery, this whistle-stop tour will provide exclusive introductions to Jai Redman: Paradise Lost at Manchester Art Gallery, La Movida at HOME and Andrew McDonald at Castlefield Gallery.

At Manchester Art Gallery, artist Jai Redman combines modern materials with a passion for traditional painting techniques and the works of the old masters, to create new, provocative images of great beauty. Group exhibition La Movida at HOME, on the other hand, takes the artistic and socio-cultural movement La Movida (literally “the movement”) of post-Franco Spain as its heart, with new commissions reacting to the time period, alongside existing international works that explore the related themes of freedom and excess. Finally, Andrew McDonald at Castlefield Gallery is a solo show of existing pieces alongside two new works by animator Andrew McDonald, a medium that has been an integral part of his practice for two decades.
