Alice in VR Wonderland at York Designer Outlet
Kristy Stott, Theatre EditorAudiences may not need to travel very far for this performance – British choreographer Jasmin Vardimon brings a unique virtual reality dance show to shopping centres across the UK.
Alice in VR Wonderland is a unique free 20-minute experience inspired by Lewis Carroll’s well-loved story Alice in Wonderland. Audiences will be tempted to step out of the hustle and bustle of the shopping centre and into the surprising and fantastical world of Alice. This unique multi-sensory experience boasts Vardimon’s inventive and highly physical choreography and a spectacular 360-degree wonderland.
In a brilliant bid to bring contemporary dance to new audiences, Alice in VR Wonderland is the Jasmin Vardimon Company’s first immersive virtual reality experience. Audiences will be invited into a specially designed vehicle for the show with virtual reality headsets and comfy seating. Transported to Wonderland, participants will follow Alice on her adventures as she meets all of the familiar and wonderful characters from the magical tale. Following the supremely talented dancers of the Jasmin Vardimon Company, audiences will experience Alice’s jaunt to Wonderland as never before.
Born and raised in Israel, Jasmin Vardimon has been a leading force in British dance theatre for almost two decades. With a strong reputation for creating challenging, exciting and visually slick productions, Vardimon is an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells.
Touring across the UK, Alice in VR Wonderland will visit all seven of McArthurGlen’s Designer Shopping Outlets. Of this innovative new work, Vardimon says, “We are excited to present this new virtual world to audiences all over the country…creating this immersive 360 artwork has been an adventure for us, and we are grateful for the support we received from our commissioning partners for making it happen. This tour and partnership with McArthurGlen Centres will help us reach new audiences and present the amazing work of our talented dancers.”
