A Tittle-Tattle Tell-A-Tale Heart at Humber Street Gallery, Hull 12 April — 30 June 2019 Entrance is free

A Tittle-Tattle Tell-A-Tale Heart at Humber Street Gallery in Hull will be Athena Papadopoulos’s first major institutional presentation in the UK. Using her recent novel of the same title, the artist uses the gallery space to construct a visual narrative that combines the use of free-standing sculpture, sound installation, costume and performance.

The first floor will be like a film set, made into enclosed environments using techniques inspired by theatre sets and fairground haunted houses. This area will be a hysterical, sublime and hallucinatory experience. On the second floor, the exhibition is inspired by fashion shows and children’s theatre. The viewer will emerge on a catwalk, becoming an exhibited work themselves. In addition, performances will take place throughout the exhibition, immersing the audience and bringing the work to life.

The artist’s distinct style continues to be employed in this new body of work, pointing towards Papadopoulos’ ongoing interest in breaking down concepts of femininity and social experience.
