Stockport Covered Market Hall
Louise BolotinGet your vintage shopping kicks this weekend with this monthly second hand Manchester market.
The undeniably lovely Victoria Baths in Longsight may host the occasional vintage fair, but the real gem when it comes to second hand markets in Manchester is the award-winning Vintage Village in Stockport. Held on the second Sunday of every month inside Stockport’s covered Victorian market hall, it’s a must-visit destination for anyone wanting to pick up all manner of lovely old things. Around 70 stalls sell collectibles and ephemera, antique jewellery, vintage clothes and homewares. It’s the place to pick up 1950s dinnerware sets, posters and prints from the 1920s, and even 1970s GPO (that’s pre-BT, young folk) dial telephones, refurbished to work on modern phone lines. As you might expect, the Vintage Village is positively heaving, so get there early if you’re after a bargain, and remember that many stallholders are open to haggling. And watch out for special themed events, too: upcoming and recent themes include the Valentino fair (timed to coincide with Valentine’s Day and a homage to 1920s heart-throb, Rudolph Valentino) and one dedicated to post-war British design. Outside the entrance, renowned artisan pie maker, Lord of the Pies has a stall where you can pick up the perfect Sunday supper for around £4.
Also look out for the Book & Record Fair which is the first Sunday or each month!
