They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and while that’s no doubt made up by the Breakfast Marketing Board, it doesn’t hurt to kick your day off with a hearty feast. Whether you want a hangover-busting slap-up feed that’d make the Bash Street Kids jealous, or a nutritionally-honed blast of leaves and berries, Liverpool has the lot. Here are our best of the best.
Mancunians might know their sister venue in the city’s Northern Quarter, constantly busy and wildly popular, especially at weekends. Liverpool is no different, with a host of interesting coffee blends and some of the finest pancakes known to man. Prepare to queue for a table, but fear not, it’s well worth it.
One of Liverpool’s most legendary spots serves the most legendary breakfast – you can’t go wrong with a full English (veggie and vegan options available), but there is also plenty of other deliciousness available. Breakfast is served all day too.
While this isn’t strictly a breakfast spot, Hardware are brunch specialists – it’s just a slightly more leisurely breakfast, no? Pretty much everything on this menu is a hit, whether you fancy sweet or savoury, you’ll leave very satisfied and may need a nap afterwards.
Pop into the friendliest venue in the Baltic Triangle for some excellent toast made from artisanal bread. There are, of course, other breakfast options too but whatever you pick, make sure there’s toast involved.
Lovelocks serves breakfast, brunch and lunch so you can roll in at any time and grab a bite. There are excellent veggie, vegan and meaty breakfasts, as well as lighter options like porridge and fancy toast.
Bold Street makes a strong showing in this list, and for good reason – it’s a hive of fiercely independent shops and cafes. Bold Street Coffee is one of the best, with, as you’d expect, a strong range of heavily-caffeinated coffee blends, but a superb selection of breakfast dishes. Our favourite has to be the Bold Street Bad Buoy – brioche bun, sausage patty, fried egg, cheese, avocado, hollandaise. Breakfast of champions.
Pippin’s Corner is an ideal base for exploring the independent shops on Lark Lane and walking off your brekkie afterwards in the magnificent 200-acre Sefton Park. And that’s what Sundays were made for.
Despite the name, you can guzzle down a heavily meat-based breakfast at Leaf, and indeed, their full English fry-up is a thing of wonder. But true food-seekers will want to sample their locally-famed vegan breakfast – we won’t ruin the surprise but expect to find your new favourite sausage-not-sausage (oh ok, the secret ingredient is falafel).
Press Bros is one of Lark Lane’s best coffee spots, with coffee made from locally roasted beans and delicious breakfasts.
The Botanical Gin Garden is a seasonal outdoor gin bar, open six months a year, serving a wide selection of delicious gin drinks.
Mahoe Blue is a bar and bistro that serves authentic Jamaican food in a cosy venue in South Liverpool.
Love Lane Brewery offers delicious food and a wide selection of beers as well as tours of the brewery and gin distillery.
