Manchester District Music Archive: Defining Me at The Lowry

Susie Stubbs

An exhibition from MDMA that tells the story and charts the cultural significance of Manchester’s musical past.

Crossing eras and musical genres, this exhibition – presented by Manchester District Music Archive – celebrates Manchester’s musical heritage as told by a wide variety of participants from the MDMA’s online community. Through key artefacts such as photography, posters, ticket stubs and objects, collected by ordinary music fans and club goers as well as those working in the industry, the exhibition explores the emotional, life-changing and inspirational experiences we all have with music. It also charts the wider cultural significance of Manchester within music history – a story that’s told by the people that know. The Lowry, Promenade Gallery, Pier 8, Salford Quays, M50 3AZ, 11am-5pm Sun-Fri, 10am-5pm Sat, all weekend (28 Sep-23 Feb 2014), free.
