Yonder
Maja Lorkowska, Exhibitions EditorOver the years, Yonder’s current home in the Baltic Triangle has been home to much-loved cafés, used by the professionals working in the area (the building is one of Baltic Creative’s spaces with offices for rent, now filled with local small companies), as well as students living nearby and tourists photographing the local graffiti. It may seem like big boots to fill with pretty much a ready-made clientele just waiting to pounce on a new coffee spot on their way to the office but Yonder has done an excellent job.
Yonder was founded by Jessie and Amy, who have over 20 years hospitality experience combined. Their labour of love was previously known as Malmo, and has now moved to the cosy, light-filled space on Simpson Street, not far from the Baltic Hotel. There are booths, window seats, bar seats and larger tables to choose from, catering to individuals and crowds. In an area where it’s not unusual for staff to seem just that little bit disinterested in their student barista jobs, the staff at Yonder are all attentive and absolutely lovely.
On the menu, you’ll find smaller snacks like artisanal toast (made using delicious Baltic Bakehouse bread) and porridge to more brunch-style dishes like eggs, sandwiches and salads. The coffee is good too, as is the relaxed soundtrack – best appreciated first thing in the morning, before it gets too busy.
Yonder is perhaps Baltic Triangle’s worst kept secret and with its tasty smoothies and smiley staff, it’s well worth a visit.
