Lovelocks

Lovelocks is a cute café on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre, in a place where cafés are not a common occurrence. Across some extremely busy roads from the World Museum, Central Library and Walker Art Gallery, on paper Lovelocks should be busy with museum goers and their families. In reality though, the awkward layout of this part of town, shaped by the incessant traffic nearby means the café and its surroundings are pleasant rather than hectic.

Founded by Sarah Lovelock, the café first appeared in 2016 in a much smaller venue, with fewer tables but plenty of atmosphere. Now housed in a more spacious shop with an in-house bakery, kitchen and a selection of irresistible cakes, Lovelocks is much-loved by the locals and tourists alike. The interior is warm and cosy, filled with plants, artworks and a surprisingly colourful bathroom.

Like most independent coffee shops, a lot of though goes into choosing the actual coffee at Lovelocks too. The beans are sourced from Girls Who Grind, a female-run indie business based in UK while the rotating list of guest filters and other speciality drinks like flavoured teas, are curated by the staff.

The menu has all of the classic lunchtime dishes, from pancakes and avocado on toast, to sandwiches, soup and pastries. The ingredients are locally sourced and everything’s made to order so you know you’ll be getting a plate of fresh goodness.

It must be said too, that the Lovelocks mantra is inclusivity. They want everyone to feel welcome, to enjoy the chilled atmosphere and delicious food, whether you’re just popping in for a quick drink or having a heart to heart with your friend over a vegan feast. So, listen when they say: “no matter who you are, Lovelocks is the place for you.”
